Nice new fabric...

Hello guys,

I've treated myself this week and bought some fabric.

Ok, I say fabric... I mean I bought two duvets at my favourite everything's £1 charity shop :)

The first is a simple brown and cream block reversible duvet.

I've been looking for a decent cream fabric for ages to use as a backing

for my quilt that I started forever and a day ago :)

The second is an adorable pink single quilt with 2 stripes of

a different pattern at the bottom.

You can see the stripe pattern here. Isn't it lovely?

Here is a close up. I have ideas for this fabric already.

A lovely surprise when I got home and opened it out, is that the front 

and back are different! So I could make two of whatever it is I make :)

A strange thing about this duvet cover is what had been hand stitched at the bottom. It's just a little rectangle of white cotton. I think it might have been like a bed pelmet/bed skirt?

Any ideas?

First ever pair of trousers! And second...

Hello! 

Continuing with the 9 projects I showed you last week, here are my first (and second) ever pairs of trousers! 

Now these trousers started their lives as a duvet cover that I bought for £1!!! When I got home and fully unfolded it, I discovered that the other side was a different pattern, and I liked it more than the initial pattern!

I used this pattern...

 When I bought it, it was half price, so I only paid £2.50, inc postage! Such a bargain project so far :)

It was an easy see, but had a few new techniques for me. It involved piping, an invisible zipper, and dealing with a crotch rise. 

Luckily the duvet had piping on it! So it was ready made and in a colour that complimented the pattern. 

My first ever invisible zipper!! 

I loved these trousers so much, and the pattern was so lovely - Simple yet enjoyable, so I decided to make another pair!! 

 Second ever zipper! I wasn't too bothered about pattern matching for these, I was limited to how much fabric (duvet) I had so I didn't want to waste any. 

I also made some pockets that I based on a pair of pyjama bottoms I have. 

I now love them both so much! I have worn them to death this summer, hence why I've not managed to do a post yet!

Graduation dress...

I've been a busy bee lately! I have made countless items of ACTUAL WEARABLE CLOTHES! Not just dresses either, everyday skirts and blouses too. I've also done a lot of re-fashions. Here is one I bought this week for £1...

This far too long black and red polka dot dress! Miraculously, not a bad fit :) But the poor unloved dress had hundreds of moth holes and tiny little tears. It also had some lovely shoulder pads haha! I didn't take pics of the moth holes because there were so many of them, I would still be there fixing them now!

Anyway, as the fit was fine, I simply cut the bottom of the dress into a slightly dipped hem (to help cover my ginormous bum!!), fixed the holes and tears, and also stitched up the button holes. As a lady with a larger top half, button down dresses and tops tend to gape and show everything off haha!

Oh, and it has pockets!!

I had kind of forgotten that my graduation is next week, so how lucky was it to come across this dress? I actually saw it as I was on my way out of the shop! And for £1?! I will be the cheapest dressed person there, and I won't even care because I made it look awesome :D

Charity shop finds...

I know I know...I've been lazy with the blog again. *slap on the wrists for me*

BUT...I have been very busy.

I got married :) 

So far it has been the best 5 months of my life. I love being married. In all honesty, not much changes, but in another way, everything changes. In a good way :)

I've also now finished my degree in Architecture!! So I've been busy for good reasons.


Anyway, no crafty bits to show you...YET! So here are some charity shop finds.

Black and white floral skirt. £1.

I don't tend to wear skirts at all, but I am always drawn to them. This one is a light cotton fabric, and I quite like the length - it falls just below my knees. I'm also tempted to make this into one of those high-low, dipped hem-type skirts that are popular now. I'm a fan of anything that makes sure it covers my bottom!

A nautical looking jacket. £1.

Yes this jacket is a few sizes too big. But I love it anyway. It is a light jersey fabric - perfect for summer. I like these sorts of jackets because they look posh, but they are cool and comfy to wear even as it gets hot.

Look at that pinstripe sleeve turn-up!

I also love the pinstripe bias-binding on the inside of the jacket. 

No one will see it but me, but it's so cute!

That's all for now guys. Now that I have some free time, I do plan on blogging more, I may just have to save up all of my interesting posts and then blog them all at once. I don't know. we shall see :)
